To combat a dangerous and growing threat, the agents of Morning Star have to get the band back together. That means going to a Mexican prison to break out a former colleague named simply “Big Jaws.” Meanwhile, Olga looks for answers in the land of the dead and gets a better understanding of the evil they're up against.
We get a better idea of the personalities at work in Morning Star #2. This issue is filled with some great interactions as the group gets together. It's just that it takes a while to get everyone in one place and while that's happening, Legion is growing and wreaking havoc out in the world. You'd think professional monster hunters would be better equipped to tackle this. It's like if your house was burning down and the fire department had to go to another country to find their best firefighter before coming to help.

Legion's earthly presence is frightening to say the least. It begins with the patient that went missing in the previous issue who looks evil to begin with, then extends out to his flock of deformed people shuffling towards him. Their bodies are twisted with horrifying growths, like tumors gone wild and mutated. Artist Paskel Millet makes them look like walking corpses, but like no zombie you've ever seen.
All of this pales in comparison to the true threat lurking beneath the Earth's surface. We get a brief glimpse of this and it looks to be a big deal. I like how it's teased and we're sure to see more of it soon. It looks like it's clawing up from the fires of Hell itself.
This is not the only monster in Morning Star #2. Millet has a few others in store, each uniquely designed and just as terrifying. One is like something out of a Godzilla movie. Another is a horde of demonic creatures in the land of the dead. It's no wonder Morning Star needed more agents to combat this threat. They're fighting it on multiple fronts.

For all that's going on, the Morning Star agents spend a lot of time talking. It could be that they're not fully aware of what's going on just yet, but it seems like they have a good idea. They lay out the plot complete with the maguffin needed to stop Legion's quest (or jumpstart it, depending on which side you're on) in painstaking detail. This exposition dump kills the momentum built from seeing the devastation Legion is bringing from around the world.
I'm curious to see how they are when they get into the field. We see a satellite office go on the offensive and they have flying robots, so I can only imagine what the main office has up their sleeves. Here's hoping we get to see it sooner rather than later.
Morning Star has all the makings of an epic apocalyptic tale. This is most definitely the end of the world and all that stands against complete destruction is this ragtag group of monster hunters. It's going to be one helluva fight.
